Elaine Tarsh Relationship Therapist

Elaine Tarsh MBACP Accredited Counsellor

My work is with couples and individuals whose problems may include relationship difficulties, intimacy issues or compulsive sexual behaviours including problematic porn viewing. I work with clients who want to build stronger relationships and are highly motivated to put in the effort required

Counselling for Individuals

Individual counselling offers a safe place to explore and understand your challenges and help you figure out a way forward. I offer short and long-term counselling using an integrative approach and have experience working with a whole range of issues including depression and anxiety.

{slider What is an integrative approach to therapy|closed}

Each client is unique and a one size fits all approach to therapy is not always helpful. An integrative approach allows the counsellor to draw upon various theories and ideas to fit the needs of the client and their difficulties.

{slider Are you a qualified and experienced counsellor}

Yes. I have a certificate in couple counselling and a postgraduate certificate in psychosexual therapy, a diploma in sex addiction counselling and over 15 years’ experience with Relate. I have been a volunteer counsellor at the Jewish Marriage Council, an organisation which provides counselling services to the Jewish community.

{slider Do you belong to a professional body?}

Yes. I am an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and a member of the College of Sexual and Relationship Therapists (COSRT) and the Association for the Treatment of Sex Addiction and Compulsivity (ATSAC).

These organisations require evidence of qualifications and good professional standards and I am bound by their codes of conduct. These organisations also provide complaints procedures should this be required.

{slider Fees, cancellation policy and payment methods}

What is your cancellation policy?

Sessions that are cancelled with less than 48 hours notice are chargeable in full unless there are extenuating circumstances.

How much do you charge?

I have a sliding scale depending on your income and circumstances.  I ask that if your income places you in a higher wage bracket, you pay nearer the higher rate to support those that don't and will pay nearer the lower end.

Individual clients £65-£80 per session

I am occasionally able to offer lower cost sessions during the day. Please ask.

{slider How can I pay?}

I use an online scheduling and payment tool.  Once a session is confirmed I will send you a link.  I can also take payments by card, bank transfer or cash.

{slider Do you issue receipts?}

I provide receipts for all payments made.

{slider When do I pay?}

I take payment 48 hours before ongoing sessions.

{slider How long does counselling or therapy last?}

Short-term counselling often takes 6-12 sessions.

The number of sessions depends on the issues you are exploring and how you choose to work.

{slider How long is a session?}

Sessions last 50 minutes.

{slider How frequent will the sessions be?}

I usually meet clients on a weekly basis, but I understand that this is not always convenient, and make every effort to be flexible where possible.

{slider Will the sessions be confidential?}

Yes. My counselling room is completely private and I follow the guidance of my professional bodies in the way I take and store notes.

There is always a gap between sessions so it is highly unlikely that clients would meet each other.

Can counselling really help me?

Nearly all counselling clients report some benefit and most say they have been helped significantly. I am well-qualified and very experienced working with relationship problems and issues around sex and intimacy, generalised anxiety, social/health anxiety, depression, postnatal depression, abuse and domestic violence.  We work together to make sustainable changes.

Being open and honest is a key factor in making progress to overcome your difficulties.
